There’s something everyone can enjoy during the Convict Wild West Days, set for from September 21 to 23, 2012.
Convict Wild West Days will show how ordinary people can work together to achieve a common goal. The goal being to make potential visitors aware this region is a premiere vacation destination. This will generate revenue in the form of tourism dollars.
Why celebrate Convict Wild West Days? Well it's all about the famous gun battle that occured on Sept. 23, 1871, not far from what is now known as Convict Lake Resort.
Six days earlier, a murderous shootout took place at the Nevada State Prison. |

Six of the 29 escapees took two Henry Rifles from the armory and fled south.
The gang, led by Charley Jones, was heading south towards Bishop Creek.
The outlaw's capture of Billy Poor, a mail rider near Sweetwater, Nevada proved fatal to him and the gang. Outrage at Poor's murder, led to the formation of a posse from Benton Hot Springs to catch the gang.
Late in the afternoon of September 22, the lawmen saw the outlaws. On the morning of September 23, the posse confronted them. Robert Morrison and Mono Jim were killed. The outlaws escaped, but were soon captured.
